to see the permissions for files and directories use the command ls -l in the terminal window this command will list all the files and directories and there permissions



  you will find that the file permissions are : 
1 = file type
2 = user permission ( permissions apply to users )
3 = group permission ( permissions apply to groups )
4 = other permission ( permissions apply to others )

you can change the permissions using the command Chmod
for example : 
       1- use the next command to list your file and folders and see there permissions
      2- use the next command to change the permission for a file called "watchandapply"


      3- check that you changed the file permissions


      4- change the file permission again
      5- check the file permission again
